The summer house, which is situated by the swimming pool, leads towards a rather magnificent underground wine cellar. Sympathetically dug backwards into the adjacent hillside visitors will find a haven for the appreciation of fine wine. With the benefit of an advantageous environment our wines are kept at a constant temperature, helping to ensure that each treasured vintage ages well.. For the Oenophile, the Connoisseur, or those who love the occasional tipple, we have something rather special.
The cellar is an ongoing work of passion. It has the capacity to hold some 2,500 bottles. Going forward we have taken the decision to engage with just a small number of New Zealand wineries that blend beautifully with our ideas at Grasmere. These are Peregrine, Saddleback, Doctors and Forrest. Our objective is to create a subterranean repose where wine and environment blend in sympathetic harmony. Our mission is to offer visitors a 'discerning cornucopia' that we hope will be unique in New Zealand.
